This page exists as a clarification for the following rule:
Language Usage
With the exception of the international language boards, which are clearly marked by their name as being non-English, all boards on the forum are English-language boards.
Any language may be spoken in any board, as long as the post meets the guidelines requirements, which are as follows:
- The entirety of the post should appear first in the native language of the board. This is the normal posting rule, so if you are posting solely in the board's language, there are no additional requirements under this guideline.
- If additional languages are desired, the entirety of the communication in the additional language(s) must be provided in the native language section of the post. Further, each section should be labelled with an appropriate tag in brackets, indicating the language by its two-letter international code (or other internationally recognized abbreviation).
Examples:
- Proper Post using English and Spanish in an English-language board
- [EN] Hello
- [ES] Hola
- Proper Post using English and Spanish in a Spanish-language board
- [ES] Hola
- [EN] Hello
- Improper Post using English and Spanish in a Spanish-language board
- [EN] Hey, how are you doing? I like that truck.
- [ES] Hola
(This is improper because the native language (in this case Spanish) goes first, and not all of the content from the non-native language (English, because it's a Spanish board) was translate to the native language.)
This guideline is intended to respect the native language of each board - English is not always first! English is not considered the superior language; it is merely the main language of the forum.
