Installing Files from the Repository post 0.36
From Rigs of Rods Wiki
What kind of file did you download?
If you have a file you have from the repository or elsewhere that you would like to install for Rigs of Rods, follow these instructions:
How to find the "My documents/Rigs of Rods 0.38" folder
Just enter this into the windows explorer address bar and press enter: -For Windows XP:
%USERPROFILE%\My Documents\Rigs of Rods 0.38\
-For Windows Vista and up:
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\Rigs of Rods 0.38\
If you have a zip file (*.zip) you can simply put the file in:
My Documents/Rigs of Rods/packs
My Documents/Rigs of Rods/vehicles/<some directory>/
Also, most files in a zip for 0.38 and up just go into My Doucuments>username>rigsofrods 0.38>packs
My Documents/Rigs of Rods/terrains/<some directory>/
If your mod isn't showing up, it may be packaged wrong. Open up the ZIP file. Does it show a folder, or a list of files? If it shows folders, it is packaged wrong and needs to be extracted.
If a file does not appear to show up in RoR, be sure it isn't listed under Unsorted. Files made prior to 0.32 did not use the sorting system and will not be sorted. The Unsorted category is the last category before All.
The truck/load crashes RoR upon selection
However, if you attempt to select a certain truck/load, but RoR crashes, it could be because the vehicle was originally packaged in a .ZIP, but was extracted and simply placed into the "Rigs of Rods x.xx\data\trucks" directory. When .ZIP files are uploaded, authors usually specify what you do with the file. Unless they say otherwise, attempt to just place the .ZIP in the "Rigs of Rods x.xx\Packs" directory first, then test to see if it works, before unpacking it--It'll save you time later on.
If you wish to have multiple skins for a vehicle, please see: Making non-overwriting skins
.Truck Files From Repository Show Up As Text When Downloaded
If your browser shows text after downloading a .truck file (IE, Chrome, etc.) follow these steps to download it properly.
- Right click on the hyperlink for the download and click on 'Save Link As...'
- Now, navigate to the proper folder for the .truck file (as explained above) and save the file there.
The truck should now appear in the menu when you go to spawn it in-game.
