Introduction

This page will talk about what you should do when you find a bug in RoR and how you should go about reporting it.

You find a bug while playing RoR

While you having fun playing Rigs Of Rods you find some land disappeared/RoR crashed/something abnormal happened. The first thing not to do is to go straight to the forum. What you should do is to go back into the game and try to reproduce the bug again. If you can reproduce the bug move to the step, if not then wait till it happens next time is see if there's something specific that causing a bug. If you cannot get it to happen then keep it in the back of your mind in case it does happen again.

What to do when you've found a bug and can reproduce it

The next step is to go onto the forum. First you have to make a choice, is it a major bug? Minor bug or a glitch? The major bug section is for bugs that prevent RoR from starting or generally prevents you from using RoR. The Minor bugs and glitch section is for bugs that don't stop you from using RoR but could stop you using a part of RoR. If you found a bug in the Linux port of RoR then inside of those sections is a Linux sub-section that you should post in. When you've found the section most suited to your type of bug then proceed into the forum and look for the object I've put a ring around in the following image.

When you've found it in your browser type a key word or 2 about your bug into the box and press return. Look to see if any of the returned matches as similar to the bug you were going to post. If you do find a close match then enter that thread to see if that helps, if not try searching again until you find a thread that's just like your problem or don't find a match at all. If you don't find a match then feel free to make a thread about your bug.

When making your thread

When making a thread always be as clear as you can. The sort of things you should include in your forum post is your system specs, what version of RoR your running, your operating system your using and what peripheral devices you have connected to your computer at the time of the bug. Also be as detailed as you can when describing what happened, include errors that were displayed (if any). It's also a good idea to attach your ogre.log file that's located in the RoR folder. If it's a minor bug or glitch consider including a few screen shots to better describe what you mean.

When you've completed your thread

The more precise you are and the more detail you got into will all contribute towards the speed of replies and the accuracy of the reply. If you've made a post which goes along the lines of "OMG ROR CRASHED WTH!!1111!" then expect a long wait. From here on in it's all about waiting and communicating with members that are trying to help you.

Dump files

In some extreme cases you may be asked for a minidump. Please go here for information.
