In the latest test flight it climbed to 250 km altitude before it flipped and exploded. I guess altitude didn't cause the crashes yesterday after all. Speed just before the flip was 12600 knots, or 6.5 km/s. Somehow "max speed" shows just over half of "current speed", I don't know which one is the actual speed.
    That sounds really cool

But i guess this means ror cannot handle things traveling at the speed of light either because the game crashes from speed or just running out of space to accelerate

Edit - New altitude record, 2597 km..
Oh I'd love to see a movie of a test flight..

So any ideas as to what was making the game crash because it seems distance may not be the cause, although saying that i have noticed on some maps with the graphics turned up they crash when you travel a certain distance, so if you were to go on a map that is 1m x 1m with a black texture and turn render distance down etc could you beat your high score

I don't think it's the same problem. The out of memory crash (which usually happens when more terrain LODs are loaded as the camera moves around the map) is fixed in 0.39 and 0.4. Yesterday I did the reversed gravity tests in 0.39.5, no idea why it crashed. Now I'm using 0.4.0 and the game doesn't crash, I'm just limited by the vehicle structure vibrating and then exploding and resetting.

It's not very exciting to watch since the terrain disappears very quickly so you can see only sky. The craft accelerates at 1-2 g so it takes a few minutes to reach 30000 km/h.

12g , wow that must hurt.

So how fast do you reckon you could get that design to reach before you cant get it to achieve greater speeds

I meant one or two G's, so it's quite mild acceleration really.

I don't think I'm anywhere near the limits. This ship was built for hovering and easy controls, not top speed. The engine setup breaks easily. A simple and sturdy structure could probably go a lot faster even if it vibrates a lot. Not sure if the vibration comes from the distance or the speed.

Edit - Another test flight with more power and less weight, 25100 knots / 12.9 km/s..

Edit 2 - Now it's completely unrealistic, the craft can accelerate at 100 g. I'm currently going about 170 km per second, 180 000 km altitude and still climbing with momentum (engines broke a while ago).

.. and now it's past the moon..

.. almost 2 hours into the flight, altitude was somewhere around 800 000 km when it reset back to start.

The visual n&b structure starts to break up at the seams at 1000 km or so, and by 100000 km it's an unrecognizable bunch of beams. Seems like the actual physical structure is a lot more accurate, since it had only 5 deformed beams.

Yeah i was looking at the 12g in the green bar

But wow that is some serious speed, well done!
