    Default Pitts Special

    Have been playing ROR for years now but have never really made anything decent, so I thought I would make a aeroplane, since there was not many aircraft available.

    Its a simple node beam, with a submesh and basic texture. It is dynamicly very similar to a basic Pitts Special, weights 560kg, cruise is about 140kts and it is very aerobatic, but it isn't very scale (I did not measure anything, just did it by eye and scaled the length to 5.9m)

    I'm going to try a blender mesh and get rid of the ugly submesh. Also to add wheel pants and a spinner.

    If anyone knows how to get a two bladed airscrew/propeller, please reply.

    Hopefully I'll release it in the next few days.

    This is a new-style plane, designed in the 80's or 90's (or something like that). Looks like a ton-o-fun, to bad RoR doesn't have white smoke for airplanes. Beauty regardless, but will it have the typical white and red, stars and stripes paint scheme?

    Thanks guys, I really appreciate it.

    Been working on the spinner, wheel pants, gear structs and wing supports so you shouldn't see any beams.
    And the exhaust does a semi decent job of a smoke trail, wish you could get a smoke emitter, that would be awesome. About the paint scheme, I'll see what I can do, I just used a basic job to test it. I suppose your wanting something like this;

    You can make a smoke emitter, it's easy just use particles

    Thanks for the help and kind comments; I've now released it on the Repo, so just need to wait for it to become available.
    Here are some more screens of the finished thing, I might improve the texture slightly and add the appearance of rivets, control surface hinges, and exhausts.

    Great creation!

    I would just suggest that you apply 1 or 2 levels of subdivision to your mesh. RoR can handle very high poly stuff with nearly no lag, even for old computers. It looks like it could work quite well for your model.

    Flys great at slower (120KN and under) speeds! Can I make one small suggestion? Try angling the Horizontal Stab down to hold the nose up a little bit (maybe a Pitt's POH has more info).

    Yeah I noticed this but it can be fixed by using flaps ("1"&"2"), hold 2 down for a bit and it will fly level, Its because the aircraft uses a symmetrical aerofoil section, instead of a usual cambered one like the antonov or twin otter, putting the flaperons down a bit acts as like cambered aerofoil, so no downforce on the tail is needed.

    I like it! Might I say... Don't use the parking brake while landing... you will nose over. My suggestion : Put the brake on the rear tire.
