Well, the bridges are pretty anonymous and would suit any climate, and I don't mean for any map in particularI really like making bridges, so I might try and make some more, although maybe I should finish some other stuff first :L
Left untouched from the heightmap. (current state)
Paved using standard RoR roads.
Paved using custom narrower single track road.
Textured to look like a dirt trail.

This map looks exactly like where I live! The winding roads, 200ft drop on one side, 200ft straight up on the other side, and a river at the bottom. This looks high-quality to me so far, keep up this fantastic work.
I found a suitable picture on Google; this is in McCall Idaho, an hour long drive from me.

how did you set the heightfield? is it still 1025x1025?

Yep
To make rectangular
-Make a rectangular map in L3DT
-On export re-size the RAW to 1025x1025 and the texture to 2048x2048 or similar.
-In the .cfg change the world size to your original map size in L3DT
You have made amazing bridges!Dump question: Will you add asphalt road on the ground too? Or it will be only on the bridges?
Listen, watch and be silent...
Badlands Rally
Thats actually a really good question, that I've not yet answered. On my map Eagle's Peak, I choose to add a paved road to the trail, but this was mainly since the trail was bumpy and bad to drive up. However on this map I spent some time smoothing the road, and its easy enough to drive on as it is. So the decision to add a road would be purely aesthetic.
Ok, the map will now feature a custom road. To do this I have imported the map into blender, to use as a template, to make an entire road as one mesh. The result will hopefully be a really nice, perfectly fitting, smooth, custom road.
Special thanks to Lepes, who gave me much advice on how to do this.
Planned Release Date: Friday 23rd December
Yay.
How about a long smooth road with some ice patches? Especially on the edges. I would love to try hauling a trailer and try to brake while on ice![]()
Just remember the release date I just set, Brickman :L
But yes its a nice idea, but tricky to implement and look realistic.
So, the plan has worked, and at the moment I have a road on the map. However I managed to mess up the texturing, the corners aren't smooth enough and I'm not happey with the shape. So on Friday, I will try again.
A little preview of whats to come, this only took 2 hours and will be replaced:
Well, I was thinking maybe single track with passing places, as that would look quite neat![]()
I take it you have plenty of single track roads in Wales? Theres endless ones in The Scottish highlands and Islands.
yeah loads, the most beautiful imo is the black mountain road, though some bits are actually *A* roads but the view is scary, your driving a long way up, i was running down them once and came to a cliff i didnt see, 400ft below is the road that i can barely see, and i just about stopped as the hill i was running down was steep, i also rolled a car tire complete with rim down the mountain, was fun watching it bounce massivly into view, i hope it didnt cross too many roads, i didnt think of that at the time :O

Really nice terrain.I love the layout of it, kinda reminds me of small shelf railway layouts, except this is for virtual vehicles.
The texture looks quite low-resolution, are you going to make higher quality ones?

Not sure, I'm considering messing around with alpha splatting, but it depends on how long I have to spare.
