Google Sketchup Warehouse - Taking models = Banned

YOU CAN STILL USE SKETCHUP TO MODEL, you just can't take someone elses model from the warehouse.

We've made a general decision among invited/staff that taking models from the Sketchup Warehouse will no longer be allowed on the forum/repo in any sense. Modeling in Sketchup is no problem, please continue if you feel comfortable making meshes yourself in that program.

By all means, you can continue to use models for personal use from the warehouse, but no downloads, pictures, or mods will be allowed on the forum with models taken from the warehouse, period.

We hope you can respect this decision. We want to promote people doing their own work, not taking others and getting recognition.

Only one infraction will be handed out for taking a model (posting pictures of "your mod" etc), after that, you get the idea.

If you have a sketchup warehouse account that you upload your content to, please send WhiteTiger a private message and let him know your account name so he can approve your rights to share with the community.


There is a legal aspect as well (Fidoj quote)

the actions where taking are to protect Tdev from a legal nightmare as Google owns rights to everything "you/others" put on the warehouse, the only way we can be sure no legal issues arise is to ask you to use blender or prove 110% that you made the mesh.
these action are here to ensure rigs of rods last's a very long time and grows better.
Any legal action from google because a mesh was used that has copyrights would be the end, of this forum and the game.

ok so even if you get permission from someone off of google warehouse to use there vehicle you still cant release or post pics? just wondering, take thatsnice for example, is what he does not aloud anymore either?

From what I understand, modeling in sketchup isn't an issue. It's pretty clearly outlined that sketchup isn't the issue (though there may be better alternatives) but rather the warehouse. Things taken from the warehouse are absolutely not allowed. So you can make a truck in sketchup, but if you take say the wheels or tanks or some other part, it is not to been seen or heard of on the forums.
100% scratch made trucks are still tolerated from what I can see.

I have credited the author for his cab allthoe its only their ro give me inspiration & will be removed. Do i have to hide it from pictures?

I think its a bit unfair really. Thatsnice makes great things credits authors & has permition to use models. You have pretty mutch denied him of doing this as 90% of his cabs are from the warehouse. Could their be a way that certain members are allowed to use things from the warehouse?

And yeah, we are denying him 90 percent of his work. Because 90 percent of his work, was not HIS work. There will be no exceptions, if they use warehouse models, they receive the boot.

Well it sucks that the forum has come to this It really does becuase there are people on here that use sketchup meshes (with permission) and actually put time into them, and then
on the other hand there are people that import and new mesh every 2 minutes and put absolutely no work in it at all, and if I'm not wrong this is what you guys have been getting frustrated with ? any ways just wanted to throw in my 2 scents and say how sad this is I geuss i'm done on these forums... for a while atleast.
