Post Low fps with a very new graphics card??

    Hi all,
I just upgraded my comp with a new msi gtx 470, which is supposed to be pretty fast, or so I thought.
Is it normal to get 75 fps in a basic vehicle on flatmap, with average high settings? Any help is appreciated!

As far as I'm concerned that's a pretty darn good FPS. I"m not familiar with that graphics card but I think many other factors play a role in determining final FPS rates such as total ram, CPU speed, etc.

I'm happy to be able to get 25-30 fps :P

CPU is the main factor with RoR and FPS. Also make sure to disable Vsync.

not if his screen is set to 75hz, and it's useless to have more fps than the actual monitor refresh rate. At 75fps on a 75hz screen you get a perfect, lag free display.

75 fps is not at all low. The way your describing it though makes me understand what your trying to say. The reason that your getting this "low" fps could be because of a few things such as: Other components in your computer that don't have as high performance abilities or that may be obsolete, the graphics card might be set to limit the frame rate that can be used (I now that mine does that with certain games and it was around 70 fps), the GPU might not be "top of the line", there may be other processes running in the background that could be slowing it down, you might not have that much RAM, you might have some settings in RoR that some of your computer's components can't handle at maximum performance, etc. But 75 fps is by far nothing to worry about.

I get that around 50-60 fps on flatmap with a car or two out. I only have one setting that isnt basic, I have anistropic texture filtering. My graphics card isnt the greatest but I have 4GB of ram and a quadcore processor so I have no problem with the physics

Yeah, normal people call that "high" or at least "acceptable" FPS.

hint: the human eye sees roughly 30 frames per second. Anything above 60 frames per second is totally indistinguishable from continuous motion.

In my opinion 9 GB of RAM is a very unusual amount. :-\

You can buy a mac with 36 GB of RAM but you have to pay an extra $30,000 just for that extra memory. :-\(I configured a mac on their site once and yes it was that much more)

The more FPS you computer an output, the more fluid motions appear on screen. Eg, Televisions typically run at 25-30 FPS, depending on the broadcast system.

Dell does servers that can have up to 96GB of memory. They claim you can get something like 192GB but the highest setting on the configure page was 96GB from what I've seen.

I'm not a pro but maybe the FPS are "low" without physic, but they will drop very slowly with physic instead of high FPS but they drop fast.
