    Post Request collection thread

I have now stopped updating this thread by myself and moved it over to the wiki here: http://wiki.rigsofrods.com/index.php...anted_Features
    More info here: http://forum.rigsofrods.com/index.ph...1.html#msg6021

This thread creates a rough overview about all requested things and sort them a little bit.

    Major requests:

    Minor requests:
    • Weather
Snow, Rain Sandstorms, etc. should improve the display and the vehicle response (to the ground for example)

    - Done with broken texture for flexbody meshes

    • Cables
A way to add cables that could bend so we don't just have the rigid ropes.
    • Clutch shifting and gear config
Some way of configuring a wheel like the G25's clutch and 6 gears in RoR.

    - Done for the g25 only yet.

    - Turn signals are there, driver animation still missing.

    - Indicators and brake light made, destroyable buildings not

    • Improved Rig A Deal
Make it spawn loads as well as trucks and a little parking area to park it all in.

    - Load spawner is a seperate object, parking area can be found on some terrains

    - 48 Commands available now

    - Some extra debugging options are there but some crashes still hard to fix

    - Done with groundmodels

    - Done

    - Done

    - Done with wheels2, meshwheels and flexmeshes on normal wheels but still more options for the beam model of the wheel wanted

    - Same as above

    • Charater Damage
A feature that would change different colours of the main characters body, depending on how much pressure and G-Forces have been applied to the body.
    • Fuel Usage
A system to use fuel and re-fuel.
    • A toggle switch to change the focus of the command keys
A toggle switch that routes the F keys outputs either to the truck itself or the trailer
    • Better water tools
A line in the terrain file that can adjust the water level for different parts of the map.
    • Navigator
SatNav to put in your trucks destination and it reading you the instructions on how to get there.
    • Amphibian support
A system to combine land and water vehicle's.
    • Digital Compass
A digital compass would be useful tool when working out orientation of things your adding to the landscape.
    • Separate Start/Finish Checkpoints
So the race track doesn't have to be a loop but could be more like a drag strip.

    - Possible with race scripts

    - Possible with flexbody

    - Not a feature request but a map/object request

    - Added to RoRconfig

    • Scaling guidelines
A guideline that would keep all vehicals the correct proportion to everything else.

    - RoR Scale should be 1:1, a way to force modders keeping realistic size possible?

    • More options for commands
"I'd like to request 1 more option for commands like: Return to middle. When you stop pressing the function key the command returns to it's 'default' state."

    - Possible with commands2

    • Pull Pal Winch Anchor
A solid anchor that is put into the ground with a winch connected to it. When pulled on the Anchor, it digs into the ground till it's deep enough to pull the car.
    • Unique dashboard for cars
A different dashboard for the cars instead of sharing the same dashboard between trucks and cars.

    - Done, individual dashboards possible, but adjustable gauges still wanted

    - Vehicle categories are made, but a better system is already necessary because of the huge amount of vehicles

How to add your idea to this list: search the forum if the idea was written down before, if not create a new discussion thread and explain in some paragraphs the pro's of your idea. The moderator will then add the thread (if relevant enough)

EDIT by Lenni: I'm trying to revive this thread and added some status info for the things that have been made now.

Post Request collection thread discussion thread

The thread is locked (not a problem)

I just wanted to comment so I thought I'd start this thread.

    "Major requests:"

    "Extreme Optimization measures
A "mode" that would give slower machines a fps boost by making objects solid."

"Minor car improvements and destroyable buildings"

I can just imagine Pricorde reading this list and saying to himself "Make your Bl**dy minds up". People want the objects that are solid to be changed into destroyable and the objects that are destroyable changed into solids. Gaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And I wouldn't say theirs a big enough consensus to make this a major request (imho).

    And you've included destroyable buildings

The first part of your post I don't quite know what your getting at. There 2 completely different threads about different things. ???
The reason I put the optimization measures in the major requests is because you could look at the word "major" in two diffrent way. Major as in huge demand or major as in it would be a major change to the program and would take allot longer then all of the other requests in the minor section.
Maybe I've understood it wrong but I'll leave it there till iver more people comment or Thomas edits the post himself.

Where have I included destroyable buildings twice?

I dispute that it would be that hard to make flexible objects solid. All you'd need is an exception clause in the program to the effect that if a beam or node belonged to an object you wanted left solid was being processed, then simply don't do the force calculations on it. Effectively whatever the outcome of a collision the solid object would not be deformed, but could probably still be moved.

When I copied and pasted the text the underlining was removed so I confused a sub heading with a sentence which made me think you'd included destroyable buildings twice?

The idea of this thread is to list posted topics. That way if Pricorde does come onto the forum he doesn't have to go through each thread individually to see what people want.
So the best thing to do is to make a thread and if there's enough interest then it might sway Pricorde to move it up the list on his things to do.

    BIG ONE!!!!

What about automatic collision meshs'. For example, insetead of painstaininly trying to find out the cords of the collsion boxes for the 'odef' the games just treated it as though it had collisoion boxes around it!

this would make it easier for people to make new citys and buildings for the game!, think of it!

Make a thread for the idea then. If the thread gets popular then maybe the sooner you'll see it happen if Pricorde likes the idea.

Why not do this on the wiki instead? that way people can add their idea to the list and not force admins to have to search down the threads and add them to the list thomas has posted.

one for the road. the click a node and move feature. i would like to see it revisited. with a 3d x,z,y thingo (tech name for object) pop out so we have more control over where we want to move the node in game, would make rope attachments easier and crane operations aswell. it would make it more life like. after all we dont shove and push things when we grab them

    Just to update you all:

This rather large list has now been copied over to the wiki located here: http://wiki.rigsofrods.com/index.php...anted_Features
The reason for this is so everybody can add/edit/whatever to it.

    To edit it:
First of all you need to setup a account on the wiki.
When you've done that go to the main menu by clicking the RoR truck logo on the top left of the page
    Click on "Planned Features"
Then look to "Wanted Features" and move your eyes to the right hand side of the screen.
You should see a edit link, click that.
Then type into one of the sections using this format:

    Code:
    *[Link_here Writting to be displayed]
    **Description of your post
Click save and that's all there is to it! ;D

    Post Re: Request collection thread

When Pricorde reads the list I think he may feel a bit overwhelmed. ;D

I have one concern about putting the list on the wiki. On the wiki the list is susceptible to tampering. Needless to say their have been arguments within the ror community in the past and people could vandalise other people's suggestion's.

I have another suggestion for the admin's to consider. What about instigating a voting system for the feature requests? That would give Pricorde an idea of which features we wanted the most and which could be dropped. Maybe give each member ten points to allocate to his favourite ten suggestions? Point ten could be worth 10 points, nine = nine points and so on, something like that? A voting system would also prevent tampering. I don't mind you saying no as long as the idea receives fair consideration, it may be unfeasible, I know a lot of work has already been put into the forum.'s which I appreciate

Anyone can delete anything on the wiki, but there's safe guards in place that prevent that. Like the rollback funtion that anyone can use which will restore to a earlier save. If worst comes to the worst then we have back-ups to use.

We already have a system like that, it's the amount of posts a topic gets. Normally a really great idea gets lots of replys and the not so good ideas don't get that many.

not only that but admins can protect a page so that only they can edit the contents.
