i looked in the hydrax.zip and seen the Caustics_0.dds Caustics_1.dds Caustics_3.dds and so on but has anyone tryed to get them working on a terrain ?

i tryed once when making rock_island but failed. i adding colour_op alpha_blend ( i think.. i cant remember now) and anim_texture with my shoreline texture (test1_sand.dds) but i was using the Etterrain.material with the normal maps, diffuse and lightmap and it got too complicated :) seems like it would be simple to get it working though, kind of like clouds but blending it on a ground textures.

somthing like anim_texture Caustics_0.dds Caustics_1.dds Caustics_2.dds... and so on or how ever it goes
(sorry xanax makes my brain not work well) lol

So after seeing BigBoy's post on trams, I decided to give it a shot myself, and take things a few steps further.

So I present to you, the fully automated version of my highliner!

All you have to do is activate the train, and it will drive itself, accelerating up to 23mph. On approaching the station it will automatically decelerate to stop at the station. Then it will open the doors, wait for a short time, before closing the doors, and accelerating back up to 23mph. Unfortunatly due to a bug (that has apparently been fixed for 0.4.0.5), you must be "on board" the train on normal camera mode for the station stopping procedure to work correctly. (tested on version 0.38.?) So on the test map i have uploaded, just select the highliner EMU "AUTOMATED" from the train spawner, then sit back and enjoy the ride.

So how does this work?

It's honestly really hard to explain well, so just download it and watch what happens. The general idea is that triggers are used to automate all the doors and the rotator. A mesh object in the track, is what initiallises the stopping process.

The clever part is that we can use a couple of extra commands combined with triggers to create timing devices! So after the initial trigger, everything else is just timed.

Setup

You need my highliner train allready installed. Add the highlinerautomated.truck to the highliner zip. Place the map in terrains. Will only work with this map, due to the rotator running 0.2m below rail height, between the tracks. So level crossings and possibly points will kill it. I'm not sure if it stops for a second time correctly...

The important stuff from the truck file

shocks
;this shock returns the initial trigger back to it's original position.
173, 172, 8000, 800, 1.0, 0.0, 1.0, i

triggers
;"4" doesn't exist, and so is just being used to say "trigger nothing"
;this is the initial trigger that when compressed triggers the automated stopping process.
173,172,0.5,0.95,16,4, c

;these triggers concern the door automation, initally "6" is being sent, keeping the doors closed.
;When command reaches it's short length, the doors are opened. (Command "5") Note how the command 11, 201, acts as a timer.
;the second trigger below causes the command to reset.
11,201,0.05,0.95,5,6, c
11,201,0.05,0.95,14,4, c

;these triggers concern the rotator automation, initially "11" is being sent, turning the rotator.
;"4" triggers, nothing, however "11" is no longer triggered, stopping the rotator.
;again note how command 14, 202 is acting as a timer.
;the second trigger below causes the command to reset.
14,202,0.05,0.95,4,11, c
14,202,0.05,0.95,15,4, c

rotators
;axis1, axis2, a1, a2, a3, a4, b1, b2 b3, b4, rate, keyleft, keyright
;dual rotators for more POWERRRR!
;"11" is for forwards and is triggered on/off by triggers. "12" is never used.
179,187, 174,175,177,176, 198,182,184,178, 20.0, 11, 12
;this command acts as the door timer
11, 201, 0.3, 0.65, 0.0, 1.0, 16, 14, pf
;this command acts as the rotator timer
14, 202, 0.3, 0.5, 0.0, 1.0, 16, 15, pf
