Today I want to show you another little project I am working on :-)
I thought about how we could bring some life to the RoR world in SP, and first thing I thought about where actually trains. So I created a simple model of a trolley (images for textures taken from google... don't know the authors from them, so I might not realease these trolley models). The mesh sits on a simple N/B chassis, that slides along a meshed rail and is propulsed by a rotator which is activeted by a trigger. This causes the trolleys to instantly move until their physics are activated, they don't have an actual engine. Be carful when crossing tracks, they are contactive With something heavy you can also push them off the tracks.

Thanks to sputnik_1 for the idea with the rotator used for propulsion! :-)

Last but not least, here is the video:

Please comment and tell me what you think about this :-)

Indeed this will give some life to RoR! Great work!

Wow excellent ! One question : is the trolley still activeted when you are away from ?
  3. BigBoy's Avatar
Yes, those stay activated once the physics are loaded :-) And thanks! By the way I added some animated textures, like the lights do stay constantly on and there are some sparks flying from the pantograph, though you can't really notice that in the video :-/

Wow, extremely nice job BigBoy, really can't wait for it!
Just one question, so will you make meshes for it? So it's all mesh like the train?

Could you add a trigger to the front of the tram so that it stops the rotator when hitting something? Think it only needs one more node and 3 beams?

    Looks great by the way!

Wow,this looks good can you make the trolley go faster?

So brilliant work man, a good first look at npc vehicles.

And another thing is one going faster than the other??

That's amazing! It's like AI or something. Great work!!!

Very nice, man! Nice work :)

Awesome work! Making ror more realistic mod by mod

Now for trains that drive themselves around a map and do a jump through a open wagon >

You too it give some nice ideas ?

You know this could surly be used for cars traveling through-out a city area. with some sort of track that they follow that is well below the road so as not activated by player vehicles. Plus then they could use a more rudimentary steering system. Some sort of single node on elastic dragging a vehicle around the road. ground breaking stuff!

    Do want. Looks utterly spectacular.

Thanks for the nice feedback so far
    @Scania_Lover: Uhm, they are meshed?...
@kevinmce: Thought about that, too, actually, but I'm not sure if it will work good, though I might test :-)
@hotrod55 & VeyronEB: Yes, I could make them go faster, but I thinks it's good as in the narrow curves they might derail otherwise, but this technique works for faster moving objects, too, of course ;-) They are driving the same speed, though in the video one just crashed the Zeta so it was still accelerating :-D
@kevinmce (again): Yes, this could be used for cars, too, for sure. BUT: Please keep in mind that the Trams are friendly for FPS, but if you take too many of them of coures game will lag, and same will happen when you have several cars driving around... Furthermore trolleys are actually driving on a rail, while cars should have an AI in my opinion, otherwise this won't be very realisitc if every car follows the same path.

Seems they are totally stupid and unstoppable like the trolley in GTA SA

I meant they and submeshed right now, correct?
I wanted to know if they will be full mesh not submesh.

Yeah look at the n/b again they are meshed, and also submeshed, but the submesh is invisble... Front gets narrower, roof is rounded, nothing like that as a n/b :P
