The AMAZING BLOG OF DEATH
So Beolex bugged me for months and months to make a tutorial explaining how I make nice buildings.
So I did.
Read this tutorial: Donoteat's Patented Building Workflow to learn how to make this exciting building!
Yesterday I released the containers pack. Go download it on the repository.
Automated locking system by sputnik_1. Just plop one container on top of another and it will lock automatically. They will also unlock automatically if enough force is applied.
20ft containers are forkliftable, I think.
Be sure to download the skins, too, or you'll be stuck with just APL containers, and as great as APL containers are, there is more to container shipping than just APL.
On the fourth and last day of Containers, we collectively produced 59 skins.
7 53' containers
1 48' container
1 45' container
29 40' containers
21 20' containers
joser08: The Blue Group 20', 40', 45', and 53'
Chalky: MSC 40', ECS 40', Mountain Dew 40', and weathered variants of several of his previous containers
VeyronEB: UASC weathered and unweathered in 20' and 40'
DarthCain: PODS, MOL 20' and 40', Tex, Senator, NYK Logistics
csxgp38-2: CSX 53', Canadian Tire 53', Canadian Pacific 53', HSM 53'
Sushi: American Red Cross 20' and 40', US Customs and Border Patrol 20', Planet Express 20' and 40', Swiss Cargo 20', UN 20',
Beolex: Porsche 40', Panoramic Photography 40', Vladimir's Commieblock Construction 40', MSC 40', Putin 2012 40', Challenge Accepted 40', Sanyo 40', Mario 40', McDonald's 40', RoR 40'
EdTheNerd: Chinese Food 20' (forgot to render this one, sorry)
Shadow: Manlove Transportation 40' (It's not gay, I swear.)
And I think that's everyone, PM me if you were miscredited or uncredited or something.
This brings the final total to a jaw-dropping 150 skins. All over the course of four days. Here they are:
If you still want to skin containers, or your skins didn't make the cut, don't worry. Addon packs are allowed and indeed encouraged, and the reskinning kit will remain available.
And the final leaderboard:
For a while it looked as though Chalky had it, but then in the last hour, Beolex submitted a pack of ten skins out of nowhere, and took the lead. Sushi just edged out CSXgp38-2 with 13 skins over his 12, tying with Venem.
IRC leads forums 103 to 47, proving conclusively that RoR IRC is superior to the RoR forums. Nyah nyah.
Well, that's the end of this session of Containers! Stay tuned, future competitions may be possible after the publication of the Port map. There are still tanktainers, smoothside containers, and reefers to be made.
Hopefully these will all be out for the general public soon. I will probably release them in a series of packs, so that I don't go insane.
Thanks for playing!

Thanks to everyone sending in container skins, and keep them coming. We're now up to 107 () container skins, and the .blend file takes something like 10 minutes to load now. That's why I am closing skin submissions at midnight EDT on Sunday September 4. Get your container skins in before that!
Note: if you miss the deadline, future addon skin packs are perfectly allowable.
Our current leaderboard:
Note: Sushi is in fact currently tied with CSXgp38-2, but I couldn't find room for him in the render.
IRC still leads forums 80 to 27. There's still a whole day left, forums!
There are still things to skin! NYK logistics is absent (still!), and I haven't seen a Senator or a Tex container yet.
Remember, skin submissions close at midnight EDT on September 04.

Thanks to everyone sending in container skins, and keep them coming. We're now up to 91 (!) container skins. I hope tdev fixes .skin files soon, or this will be a very big zip.
Here's the leaderboard as it stands:
IRC still leads forums 70 to 21. The forums really still need to get cracking on these.
Special props to Maku for his powerpuff girls container which had me in stitches for 15 minutes, and to DeGa for going the extra mile and putting some really nice weathering on his skins.
I won't be around for most of Day 3, so you'll have to PM me your skins or post them in the thread or something. Be sure to follow the instructions in the first post.
There are still things to skin! NYK logistics is absent, so is Tex, and GE Seaco, and MSC in 40', and many more!
In one day, we managed to collectively produce 51 container skins.
This breaks down into
7 53' containers.
4 48' containers.
3 45' containers.
13 40' containers.
23 20' containers.
Forums members made 4 container skins in total, and IRC members made 47 container skins in total. Forums, you people need to get cracking.
Chalky: 16 containers, including 11 generic colored containers, an IKEA 20' container, a Nyan Cattainer, a Hello Kitty container, a Sun Microsystems container, an Army desert camo container, a 20' OOCL container, and a 40' P&O Nedlloyd container.
Venem: 10 containers, including 5 APL containers in all sizes, 2 Evergreen containers (40' and 53'), one Monster Energy 48' container, one 48' Miracle Chair Company container, and one 20' Free Candy container. (looks legit to me, go for it, kid!)
Beolex (Buttlamo): 9 containers, including two "BECAUSE RACECAR" containers, one 20' MSC container, one 20' Lenin☭Trans container, one 40' Hanjin container, two containers with unpronouncable words written on them, a THW container, and a 40' Volvo container.
Sushi: 4 containers, including 40' and 20' Hapag-Lloyd, a 40' Utility Muffin Research Kitchen container, and a 53' Octan container.
Other contributers: CSXgp38-2, VeyronEB, Shadow, Fourstar, OffroadMadness, and myself, of course.
So that's day 1 of Containers! Let's see what happens during day 2. Remember, we haven't even hit "K" Line, or Uniglory, or China Shipping, or Pacer Stacktrain, or Cosco, or NYK Logistics yet. There are still skins to make!
Undoubtedly I think the funniest container so far is Chalky's 20' Hello Kitty container. There is a slim chance that one of you could best it, though!
Containers are still available from the main Containers! post.

These are some containers.
(APL container by Venem, Hapag-Lloyd container by Sushi, MSC container by Beolex [Buttlamo])
This is a zip containing skinning templates for said containers. UPDATED2: Contains .tif files, .pdn files, and .tga files of the AO layer for people who can't open .tif or .pdn files for whatever reason.
Go skin them. Send the skinned files back to me as a PSD or TIFF or PDN file, UNMERGED. You'll be credited in the release.
how do i contaenir skin
Using a decent image editor (Photoshop, Paint.NET, the GIMP) paint on the lowest layer (it ought to be called "paint"). DO NOT touch the ambient occlusion layer (the black and white one). Then send the skin to me, as a PSD or PDN or layered TIFF file.
what is tiff how do i tiff
TIFF is an image format that supports layers that most decent image editing programs can open and save to.
do i need to put alll those numbers on the containers oh god i am not good with math
EDIT: The folks at IRC are still hard at work making skins, you forums people better catch up...
(OOCL container by Chalky, Free Candy container and APL 40' container by Venem)
EDIT2: More contributions by IRC members...
Beolex: MSC, Lenin☭Trans
OffroadMadness: CRAMO, Heinekin
Venem: APL containers, Free Candy
Chalky: Sun Microsystems, OOCL
Me: IKEA, Maersk

The default vBulletin emoticons are obnoxious and make me want to strangle small furry animals with my bare hands until they are raw and bloodied.
So I've made new ones. I'd display them here separately, but the forums software limits me to 10 images per blog post. :|
In addition, two animated ones:
Anything important I missed?
EDIT: Further stupid emoticons
Bang Head :banghead:
