So Beolex bugged me for months and months to make a tutorial explaining how I make nice buildings.

So I did.

Yesterday I released the containers pack. Go download it on the repository.

Featuring:
Contactable submesh
Automated locking system by sputnik_1. Just plop one container on top of another and it will lock automatically. They will also unlock automatically if enough force is applied.
20ft containers are forkliftable, I think.

Be sure to download the skins, too, or you'll be stuck with just APL containers, and as great as APL containers are, there is more to container shipping than just APL.

On the fourth and last day of Containers, we collectively produced 59 skins.

This brings the final total to a jaw-dropping 150 skins. All over the course of four days. Here they are:



If you still want to skin containers, or your skins didn't make the cut, don't worry. Addon packs are allowed and indeed encouraged, and the reskinning kit will remain available.

For a while it looked as though Chalky had it, but then in the last hour, Beolex submitted a pack of ten skins out of nowhere, and took the lead. Sushi just edged out CSXgp38-2 with 13 skins over his 12, tying with Venem.

IRC leads forums 103 to 47, proving conclusively that RoR IRC is superior to the RoR forums. Nyah nyah.

Well, that's the end of this session of Containers! Stay tuned, future competitions may be possible after the publication of the Port map. There are still tanktainers, smoothside containers, and reefers to be made.

Hopefully these will all be out for the general public soon. I will probably release them in a series of packs, so that I don't go insane.

Thanks to everyone sending in container skins, and keep them coming. We're now up to 107 () container skins, and the .blend file takes something like 10 minutes to load now. That's why I am closing skin submissions at midnight EDT on Sunday September 4. Get your container skins in before that!

IRC still leads forums 70 to 21. The forums really still need to get cracking on these.

Special props to Maku for his powerpuff girls container which had me in stitches for 15 minutes, and to DeGa for going the extra mile and putting some really nice weathering on his skins.

I won't be around for most of Day 3, so you'll have to PM me your skins or post them in the thread or something. Be sure to follow the instructions in the first post.

There are still things to skin! NYK logistics is absent, so is Tex, and GE Seaco, and MSC in 40', and many more!

In one day, we managed to collectively produce 51 container skins.

Forums members made 4 container skins in total, and IRC members made 47 container skins in total. Forums, you people need to get cracking.

Undoubtedly I think the funniest container so far is Chalky's 20' Hello Kitty container. There is a slim chance that one of you could best it, though!

This is a zip containing skinning templates for said containers. UPDATED²: Contains .tif files, .pdn files, and .tga files of the AO layer for people who can't open .tif or .pdn files for whatever reason.

FAQ

how do i contaenir skin

Using a decent image editor (Photoshop, Paint.NET, the GIMP) paint on the lowest layer (it ought to be called "paint"). DO NOT touch the ambient occlusion layer (the black and white one). Then send the skin to me, as a PSD or PDN or layered TIFF file.

what is tiff how do i tiff

TIFF is an image format that supports layers that most decent image editing programs can open and save to.

do i need to put alll those numbers on the containers oh god i am not good with math
